MR. IRA SLAVIT: We recently helped a cardiac patient obtain a settlement of $800,000 due to the negligent implantation of a defibrillator. The doctors, in addition to not properly implanting the defibrillator didn't realize or didn't want to realize that they had made that mistake and so she was improperly prescribed steroids over a long period of time which damaged her hip and caused her to eventually undergo surgery for a hip replacement.
In another medical malpractice case, we obtained a $600,000 settlement during trial on behalf of a 30-year-old woman who was injured during the birth of her first child. She sustained injuries that caused such bleeding that she had to have a hysterectomy.
The woman who we represented underwent multiple surgeries in an attempt to control the bleeding, but the hysterectomy could not be avoided. The case settled during cross examination of the defendant doctor on the witness stand during trial.
