MR. IRA SLAVIT: One of the more difficult types of phone calls that we receive is from someone who is a family member who is either a resident at a nursing home who was neglected or abused or possibly passed away. Obviously, that person and their whole family is overwhelmed by the sense of loss. Often there are no witnesses to what happened at the nursing home either.
At Levine & Slavit it's important that we get all the records as soon as possible to preserve the evidence. And it's also important that we get a thorough investigation to see if there are laws other than negligence laws such as civil rights violations that may help the family get some sense of peace.
