Police are on the lookout for a dark-colored pickup truck that was involved in a hit-and-run on Pitman Avenue in the Bronx, according to ABC 7’s Eyewitness News. The incident occurred on September 22nd at 7:55 PM, when the truck backed over the woman as she was crossing the street, resulting in her suffering injuries to her legs and feet. Police noted the truck apparently had an after-market cap installed on the truck bed. The victim is currently hospitalized but in stable condition.
According to one witness, the truck didn’t simply hit the victim and run off. After initially backing over her, it reversed course and ran over her a second time before fleeing the scene. This resulted in broken bones in her legs and feet, further complicated by an infection she developed. The injuries, along with the attendant complications, have required six surgeries to repair thus far, keeping her hospitalized for the time being. It is unknown what motive, if any, the driver may have had to commit this act.
In an ironic twist of fate, the woman who was run over says her own grandmother was killed by a hit-and-run driver two years ago, not far from the scene of her own accident. The driver in that case also fled the scene but was eventually captured and arrested. The two hit-and-run incidents do not appear to be otherwise connected.
